Homosexuality means being romantically and sexually attracted to another person of the same sex as you. If a boy/man is attracted to another boy/man this is normally called being 'gay' (though 'queer' has been used in the past), and if a girl/woman is sexually attracted to another woman/girl this is normally called being a 'lesbian' (but may also be referred to as being 'gay'). The emphasis here is on sexual feelings and needs not to be confused (where possible!) with other strong feelings of love and affection - for parents, for brothers and sisters, for good friends, class mates etc. Many people view sexuality as a spectrum - at one end there are people who are only attracted to people of the opposite sex (heterosexual). At the other end there are people who are only attracted to people of the same sex (homosexual). Some people will consider themselves to be at totally one end or the other - but lots of people will be somewhere in the middle. These people are sometimes referred to as being bisexual - when they are sexually attracted to both their own sex and the opposite sex.
